Dear Students,

Welcome to second grade!  We are so excited to see you in the fall!  Whitson’s second grade teachers are Mrs. Clark, Mrs. Durand, Mrs. Olin, and Ms. Owens. 

Second grade is an exciting year!  We love to read and write in second grade!  We will read many exciting stories together, and learn to write narratives, informative, and opinion pieces.  We’ll also do some reports!  We start the year as scientists learning all about matter.  We will also study earth materials/erosion and pollinators.  In math, we’ll start out practicing our addition and subtraction facts to 20, and then we move on to learning about double and triple digit addition and subtraction, place value, money, time, measurement, and more!

We hope that you do a lot of reading this summer! Enjoy your time with your family and friends.  Don’t forget to put the “screens” away and play outside, explore nature, and have lots of fun!  We look forward to seeing you at the beginning of the year.  Please see the list of school supplies that you will need to bring on the first day of school!

2 pkgs. #2 pencils sharpened (Ticonderoga, black or standard yellow)
2 boxes, 24 count Crayola color crayons *
1 box colored pencils *
1 pair scissors (Fiskars preferred) *
2 pocket folders *
1 wide ruled spiral notebook *
2 pink pearl erasers
2 fine tip black sharpies
1 box of tissue
Earbuds or headphones *
1 pencil box (not a bag)
1  container Clorox Wipes (last name A - M)
1 bottle hand sanitizer (large) (last name N - Z)
