Graduation Pathways

Complete a Graduation Pathway House Bill 1599 (2019) expanded the ways in which Washington students can organize their preparation and show their readiness for a meaningful next step after high school and requires students to complete at least one Graduation Pathway. Students will demonstrate their readiness to enter a postsecondary career, including the military, or attend college, by completing one of the Graduation Pathways that aligns with their HSB Plan:

➢   Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) Test
For a student who earns at least the minimum score on the Armed Forces Qualification Test (AFQT) portion of the test (as posted by the State Board of Education) it may be used to meet the graduation pathway.

➢   Career and Technical Education (CTE) Course Sequence

  • Complete 2.0 or more CTE credits that lead to an industry recognized credential

  • Complete a Core Plus program

 Postsecondary Education = English Language Arts (ELA) and Math Courses & Exams (Can use any combination of the ELA and math options listed in this section.)

★    College Admissions & AP Exams
Students may use scores on college admissions (ACT, ACT with Writing, SAT, SAT with Essay), and specified Advanced Placement (AP) exams, to show they possess the knowledge and skills expected of high school graduates.

  • ACT (ELA = 14; math = 16)

  • SAT (ELA = 410; math = 430)

  • AP = 3+

★    Dual credit courses (1.0 credit total)
A student who completes a dual credit course in English language arts or mathematics in which the student has the potential to earn college credit.

  • AP: Earn a C+ in state-approved course (each term)

  • CTE Dual Credit (must earn high school credit)

  • College in the High School or Running Start courses (local approval)

★    Smarter Balanced Assessment
Students meeting this graduation pathway need to earn at least the following scores:

  • Score on ELA - 2548

  • Score on math - 2595

★    Washington Access to Instruction & Measurement (WA-AIM) Assessment
The WA-AIM is designed for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities.

  • Score on ELA - 104

  • Score on math - 103

★    Transition courses (1.0 credit total per ELA or math class over course of one school year):

  • Bridge to College courses have state-level approval

  • Local articulation agreements between districts and sponsoring colleges
