AP Grade Weighting

1/3 Grade Bump

Students who take an AP class and get a C- or higher will be awarded a 1/3 grade bump at the trimester final grading period. This would look like the following:

C- to a C

(1.7 to a 2.0)

C to a C+

(2.0 to a 2.3)

C+ to a B-

(2.3 to a 2.7)

B- to a B

(2.7 to a 3.0)

B to a B+

(3.0 to a 3.3)

B+ to an A

(3.3 to a 3.7)

A to a really high A

(4.0 to a 4.3)

2/3 Exam Grade Bump

Students who take an AP class and pass the AP exam with a score of 3 or better, and have met the course grade bump requirement, will be awarded the other 2/3 grade bump from the previous course grade at the trimester final grading period. This would look like the following:

C- to a B-

(2.0 to a 2.7)

C to a B

(2.3 to a 3.0)

C+ to a B+

(2.7 to a 3.3)

B- to a A-

(3.0 to a 3.7)

B to a A

(3.3 to a 4.0)

B+ to an A

(3.7 to a 4.3)

A- to an A

(4.0 to a 4.7)

A to a really high A

(4.3 to a 5.0)

Impact on class rank:

  1. If a student takes the class and gets a C- or higher the 1/3 grade bump will immediately take effect.

  2. Class rank is calculated at the end of each trimester and again when AP test scores are received.

  3. Because AP exam scores are not received until after summer, results from the AP exam and the recalculation of the student’s GPA based on those results will take effect the following fall.

  4. For college purposes, the class rank will not reflect the 2/3 exam grade bump obtained while taking AP classes during the senior year.  It will however include the 1/3 grade bump for taking the class.

  5. High school transcripts for Washington State do not recognize a grade value higher than a 4.0, therefore grades higher than a 4.0 will not be reflected on the transcript but will be reflected in class rank.

Course Fees

Students that have unpaid course fees may not be able to schedule for additional fee based courses until the past fees are paid or payment arrangements have been made.  Contact the main office for payment plans available.  For more information on how this may impact the student’s next year schedule contact the counselor.
